LA OBRA Las conversaciones y reflexiones entre un contable (cuarentón, soltero y en paro) reconvertido en taxista y la sirena de plástico que cuelga del retrovisor del taxi (que sueña con los mares del sur y rememora sus orígenes mitológicos) nos irán revelando sus hipótesis sobre el intrigante primer pasajero de la mañana y el posible final de la aventura que este ha emprendido. Trasbordo es una novela plena de personajes peculiares, emociones, humor, imaginación y conflictos que llevará al lector a sopesar las veladas oportunidades que le pudo ofrecer la vida en algunas ocasiones. A man takes a taxi; he needs to be at an important appointment. It’s a cloudy morning in a busy but still quiet city, before rush hour. Two observers describe a moment in the life of that man. One narrator is the taxi driver, a forty-year-old bachelor and former accountant joining the ranks of the unemployed who takes on the job without much enthusiasm but with a particular view of life. The other narrator is an animated object, a plastic mermaid that hangs from the rear-view mirror of the car; she gently sways, dreams of the South Seas and reminisces about her mythological origins. Both are intrigued by the first passenger of the day. As the journey starts, the reader is easily invited to follow the ride. The mermaid and the cab driver exchange reflections and points of view on the scenes that parade in the streets and on the following customers. The contrast of emotions, humor and the imagination of the characters set the tone for what seems to be a routine itinerary that day. The plot sequence is movement as well: it is the transfer from the city surroundings into the inner world of the observers, giving amplitude to events that unfold. After several routes, the mystery of the first passenger underlies. The mermaids curiosity, a sort of unease felt by the cab driver, or perhaps mere coincidence, incite them to alter the course and look for him. The journey stops when the first pas…
